The study of canonical metrics is an active topic in Kähler geometry. Compared to the many celebrated results on compact manifolds, the complete case remains less understood. In 1980, Cheng and Yau constructed the first complete Kähler–Einstein metric on a bounded strictly pseudoconvex domain. They went on to raise natural questions about how this Kähler–Einstein metric relates to the Bergman metric on the same domain. In this talk, I will introduce some developments following Cheng–Yau's question and present my recent results concerning Kähler–Ricci solitons and constant scalar curvature Kähler (cscK) metrics on such domains.
